Bob MacIntyre reflects on his six-week break and how he is ready to get going again in 2020

Few people enjoy family time more than me and it has been great to get plenty of that during a six-week break since my last event in Dubai.

We were all out in Tenerife over the festive period, which was great, while my sister had a baby recently, so it was good to spend some time with the little one, as well as the two foster boys in the house.

All in all, it’s been a nice rest and it gave me a chance to not only re-cap but also re-set some things as I start to work on elements of my game that I need to improve.

I can’t do what I am doing without the support of my sponsors – Orion, TaylorMade, Aberdeen Standard Investments, Peter Millar and Arnold Clark.

I’m grateful for the opportunity they are giving me to do what I love and, during my break, I went up to Inverness for a dinner with the people at Orion to say thanks and catch up with them.

I also paid a visit to the Arnold Clark head office in Glasgow to pick up my new car, a BMW X5, which is quite an upgrade from my mum’s Chevrolet Spark, which I was driving when I started out on the European Tour just over a year ago.

It all comes with success and success comes from good golf. You enjoy it while it is there as it won’t last forever. You don’t know how long it will last but, as long as I can keep playing good golf, I am sure I will keep getting rewarded.

My 2020 campaign gets underway this week in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which is followed by the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Saudi International to form a three-event Middle East Swing.

It’s three good weeks to start and I am looking forward to them. I played Abu Dhabi and Saudi last year, so I know what I am in for at those venues.

It will be my first appearance in the Desert Classic and I am looking forward to that, having watched it on the TV over the years.

I really can’t wait to get going and, as I set out on the road again, I have to say that the support I’ve had all over the world, though mainly in Scotland, over the past year has been incredible.

People seem to enjoy the way I play golf and I’m not going to change that. That’s why I’ve got to where I am. I enjoy playing that way and it’s great to see people getting enjoyment from that.
