Bob goes so close at Oakmont

On one of the toughest US Open courses, Bob MacIntyre very narrowly missed out on a first Major Championship win when he finished just two shots behind America’s JJ Spaun to end the week as Runner-Up.

With rounds of 70 & 74, Bob was well-placed as he moved into the weekend. Then, a third round 69 put him within touching distance of Sam Burns, who was leading going into the Final Round.

At the start of his Final Round, a couple of bogeys on the 1st & 3rd holes pushed Bob back into the pack, however an eagle on the 4th reset his round, and he played superb golf in some very tough conditions. His round of 68 gave him the Clubhouse lead, however a huge birdie putt on the last for JJ Spaun gave him a well-deserved win.

Bob’s highest placed finish in a Major gives him the perfect momentum to take into the second half of the season where, in July, he will be defending the Genesis Scottish Open title and then competing in the final Major of the year, The Open Championship, at Royal Portrush.
