Lorna McClymont to benefit from new Sean Connery Foundation Partnership

Lorna McClymont was today unveiled as one of the first recipients of a new partnership between Scottish Golf and the Sean Connery Foundation.

At today's Pro-Am for the ISPS Handa Womens Scottish Open at Dundonald Links, Lorna, together with Hannah Darling, became part of a new initiative for Scottish Golf's Women and Girls Strategy that aims to specifically help young amateurs make the transition into the professional game. The strategy ultimately hopes to grow female participation in Scotland.

Lorna, who will be making her first appearance in the Scottish Open said: "I am very grateful to the Sean Connery Foundation for their support of myself, and also of the women's game in Scotland as a whole. There is a huge potential amongst the top amateurs and professionals in the women's game in Scotland, and it is exciting to be a part of this new partnership."

Robbie Clyde, Scottish Golf CEO commented: "The partnership with the Sean Connery Foundation is a hugely positive step for Scottish Golf. Their unstinting support of the women’s game and shared vision of how to help our best young amateurs achieve their full potential when stepping up to the pro ranks is a huge boost for our sport."

Stephane Connery, Chairman of the Sean Connery Foundation, added:  The foundation was established in 2020 to reflect Sean’s passions and guiding principles. He always wanted to champion talented people who couldn’t otherwise get a break, backing excellence in need. Sean greatly admired the women’s game, and he saw an injustice in how little attention it got in comparison to the men’s. Both Lorna and Hannah are seriously talented. We’ve met them, we know them and it’s important to us that they feel the people supporting them care about who they are and what they need."

Jason Connery added: "Our hope for the Scottish Golf Women’s Professional Transition Programme is that it alleviates the financial stress on these young women - who are extraordinary golfers - as they transition into their professional career. Seeing Scots at the top of the mountain - and leaderboard -is really what we hope to see. Dad would be so proud."

Lorna has made a strong start to her first season in the professional ranks. On the South African Sunshine Tour, she finished runner-up in the Jabra Ladies Classic, and then on the Ladies European Tour, she secured her first top-10 finish at the Tenerife Women's Open. She now looks forward to her first home performance in Scotland as a professional, where she will undoubtedly benefit from a large hoe support.
